Final Food Tasting and Dress Check

Last February 10 was yet another busy Sunday for me and the fiance. We were all over Manila, but we were just glad we were getting things done.

The first order of business that day was our final food tasting at our caterer, Josiah's. We already had a general food tasting last August, but this one was the part where we got to choose from their menu items and make our own menu for our wedding. We found out that their office is in alien Marikina, and luckily, my brother and sis-in-law live just a block away from their office - they could show us the way and we wouldn't get lost. We met up with my sis-in-law Ate Weng at SM Marikina, and she was only supposed to show us the way to the place, but we ended up taking her along because we were almost late and we didn't have the time to drop her off at her house. We were actually glad she came with us because she's such a picky eater that there were actually weddings that she attended where she only ate bread and soup because she didn't like the food. She was our impromptu tie-breaker.

So Aleq, Ate Weng, and I got there, met up with our banquet and events consultant Karla, and she had the food served to us immediately. We were served small portions since it was just a food tasting and we brought an unannounced person with us, heh. Still, we were all pretty stuffed afterwards and couldn't finish the food! Friends, because of this, we're pretty sure you won't go hungry at our wedding.

Raspberry iced tea. Aleq likes it, I like dalandan juice, so we got both.

Cream of pumpkin soup, roasted pepper shrimp bisque. We liked the bisque, but we all agreed that some might find it too salty, so we went with the yummy pumpkin.

Sliced roast beef in red wine reduction. Roast beef, always good.

Fried chicken steak with mashed potato. We stuck to the classics mostly - we didn't want to experiment because 150 people are bound to have different tastes.

Eggplant parmigiana. We both love eggplant so this was a no-brainer. Josiah's makes a mean dish too - it was like veggie lasagna.

Classic panfried fish with lemon butter sauce. They made us try the mango butter sauce too, but it had bell peppers in it! I don't eat bell peppers. Aleq and Ate Weng liked it though, but I told them they couldn't overrule me on it because it'll be sad if I can't eat something at my own wedding. Karla ended up giving us both sauces because, like I said before, Josiah's is flexible like that haha.

This was some chicken dish we didn't choose. It was alright, but the pan fried chicken was awesome.

Spit fire roasted pork belly with au jus. They had us at "pork belly".

We're going to have a make-your-own pasta bar with different kinds of pasta, toppings, and sauces plus a chef to cook it all up for the guests, and we got to try that at the general food tasting, but Josiah's had us try a couple of combos at this tasting too. This was sun-dried tomato pasta. It was surprisingly super good, like it had some sort of tinapa in it, but it didn't. We loved it.

This was some white sauce concoction that Aleq and Ate Weng both really liked too, but I didn't because it had that bell pepper taste again. I'm sure it's really good because they said so, I just hate bell peppers (I even take them out of pizza).

We're going to have a dessert table with 15 kinds of desserts that we already sampled at the general good tasting, but we were still served three desserts at the end of our tasting session. Aleq and I are big dessert people so 15 kinds of desserts? We're so getting that, obviously. This is blueberry cheesecake, creme caramel, and the last one was mocha cake methinks.

After that wonderful meal, we got down to business with Karla. We thought we were just going to make our decisions on the food, but no, we had to make decisions on the look of the entire reception as well. Aleq and I weren't prepared at all, but Karla walked us through it and Ate Weng helped us out wit the decisions big time. There were so many details to decide on - tablecloths, runners, napkins, cushion covers, chair colors, flowers, vases, backdrops, etc. Whew! Glad that's over and done with.

Overlays - yay or nay?

Cute but kind of brings curtains to mind.

Hmmm looks sleeker - definitely something to think about.

Relieved A and J after all the decisions.

Our next stop that day was Ate Weng and Kuya Manny's house. She kind of went crazy in Divisoria and bought blue and orange stuff for us. Thanks Ate! We talked about a lot of details before heading off to our next errand.

I think these fans that Ate Weng found are hilarious! So over-the-top but I know the Ninangs will love it.

Aleq, playing Wii Sports with my nephew Rein while us girls discussed wedding stuff.

Ate Weng got these fans for us too heehee. Cute.

Ate Weng and me

After that quick visit to Marikina we went all the way to Dapitan to The Secret Creations, our dressmaker's shop, to check on his sample for my reception dress and my bridesmaids' dresses. We were also showed the lace and pattern of my future mother-in-law's dress. We did a few tweaks, but we were pretty happy with everything.

A sneak peek!

Aleq's mom wanted powder blue lace with a dark blue lining.

Whew this was such a long entry! We got a lot done that day and we got more done the days afterward. I'll update again soon.
