Meetup with college friends

A few weeks back, Aleq and I met up with our college friends. These people formed our barkada (group) in UST. There were five of us then - Mel, Ernie, Jason, Aleq, and I. Then the group just grew with the arrival of others met over the years. We were actually a group before Aleq and I got together, so this set saw us evolve from friends to boyfriend and girlfriend. That is why Jason, Mel, and Ernie will be part of our wedding entourage. Details of the meetup are over at my blog.

Random Wedding Thoughts at 1AM

The fiance and I kind of wish we're the kind of people who would go for classic stuff so we can have a nice, traditional wedding like everybody else. However, we're not. He just wants to do his own thing. He doesn't want to just go with the trends or have everything tied to a certain theme or color or whatever. I am finding that I don't want florals, ribbons, beads, ruffles - frills, to put it simply. Though I like all those things in normal, everyday life, I am not feeling them for my wedding. We don't know why this is happening! We're not aiming to be rebellious or edgy or anything else like that, but we like what we like and that's it.

Our wedding right now is looking like it's going to be contemporary. It will have a bit of Japanese inspiration here, and a little rock over there. Hopefully, it's going to be modern, yet also very warm and somewhat still formal and traditional. Now how are we going to pull that off, exactly? We don't know. It's actually really difficult to choose things that aren't on-trend or colors that aren't common because we have to search high and low to find patterns and pegs that we love. [Edit: For example, gray suits are on-trend this year and black is classic, so all the stores have and all the designers are showing are gray, black, and the occasional white. Plus, the barong is the main choice in this country for formal attire, and it's what people are more used to.] I'm actually getting that feeling of idea overload, like there are so many things we want that we need to think of, but they're not going to come easily. I get frustrated at liking weird things - stuff that make people go "Huh?", "What?", and "Really?" - because then I have to think of ways to achieve them and since they're strange, it's tough.

I guess all we can do is to go by instinct here, and just hope for the best. The important thing is that we both agree with each other and make sure we love everything that we decide on. Wish us luck!

The Ring

You’ve seen the ring. You know what it looks like. But do you know how it came to be? No, it wasn’t made from the fires of Mount Doom, in Mordor. Trust me, this is not the one ring to rule them all (took the use of this LOTR quote from one of Chris Pirillo’s vlogs). It did however, require a lot of effort to put together.

Initially, the idea was just to get a ring from a jewelry store. However, I couldn’t find a sapphire that was round in shape. Most shops had them shaped like an egg. Plus they were placed on a ring with a star-shaped crown. While it did look fancy, it was a design that was all too common. Practically almost every store had one in varying sizes. Thankfully, my Uncle Ponch - who accompanied me the whole time I was having the ring made - offered a solution: build the damn thing from scratch.

First, the stone. We went to different jewelry stores asking if they sold loose stones. As expected, most of them said no. Those that did say yes weren’t able to give us something as big as the one my uncle and I got. Luckily, we found what we were looking for in Greenhills, of all places. Had that failed, we probably would’ve ended up somewhere in Binondo, which was something I really didn’t want to put myself through. With the “rock” secured, we moved on to the next item on the list - the ring itself.

Where have we been?

Hello! It's been a while. Things might seem to have come to a standstill here on the blog, but the fiance and I are on schedule so far wedding-wise (I think, heh). So where have we been? Well, we've been busy working, that's what. Weddings cost a ridiculous amount of money, and since we want ours to be special, we're making sure we're good on the financial front. That's why we've been - and will continue being - busy making money. Come to think of it, we would still be busy without the wedding. We're just really focused on business for the simple reason that it is important for our future. Don't worry though. We'll make time to update this blog with our most recent wedding preparation developments and more wedding-related stories or thoughts soon.
